As part of Woolworths Group, sustainability means constantly improving the ways we work.

As one of the largest supply chain networks in the country, we are committed to investing in our DC network. Our considerable scale allows us to effectively deploy resources and maintain robust operational contingency, even when faced with challenges posed by weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

01

Sustainable design

Primary Connect prioritises sustainability in the design and construction of its DCs. This is reflected through our use of sustainable materials, solar panels, implementation of energy reduction strategies and strategic co-location efforts, which reduces transport movements and in turn carbon emissions that provide both business and sustainability benefits.

02

Decarbonising our transport

Primary Connect is starting to electrify its transport fleet, including refrigerated trailers, yard tugs, prime movers and charging infrastructure. We are also expanding our use of rail across our network to further decarbonise operations.

03

Network resilience

Primary Connect has invested significantly in resilient DC and transport networks to strengthen our ability to serve our stores and customers across Australia and New Zealand. Despite F25 disruptions from natural disasters including floods across Far North Queensland, we maintained essential goods availability and rapid supply recovery.

04

Collaborating with partners

Primary Connect collaborates with suppliers to reduce plastic and packaging waste by promoting reusable plastic crates for select categories and managing their backhaul, sorting and reuse. We also partner with our transport carriers to improve freight efficiency by using higher productivity vehicles (HPV) and trialling EV prime movers.

We are committed to making a positive impact.

At Primary Connect, we’re incredibly proud of our two decade partnership with Foodbank Australia.

For 20 years, we’ve stood side-by-side with Foodbank in their mission to combat hunger across Australia. Their recently released Foodbank Hunger Report 2025 highlights the ongoing need, and we’re humbled to play a part in their incredible impact. Just last year, Foodbank, with the support of dedicated partners, provided the equivalent of 92 million meals to Australians facing food insecurity.

Beyond our regular food donations, we leverage our logistics expertise to serve as one of Foodbank’s largest pro bono transport providers.

We’re incredibly grateful for Foodbank’s tireless efforts and the opportunity to contribute to their impactful work. Here’s to another 20 years of fighting hunger, together.
